Sailboat decals and striping

Striping basics

The moment your boat leaves the factory and sees its first sunlight, the vinyl decals begin to fade. Within a few years the colors are noticeably different than the original shades.

This is good news and bad news. You won't be able to make an effective patch, but the good news is, you're no longer tied to the color or size choices of the builder!

On older boats, we recommend replacing the entire stripe. Your replacement should be the same width or maybe one size larger than the original, but never smaller. (A narrower stripe will expose a visible line where the old tape covered pristine gelcoat.)

Specs for the "official" color scheme

Well, there's no such thing. Hunter did spec standard striping but it was subject to change on a whim. Also, dealers and owners ordering boats could (and did) change the colors. Google almost any model, click on images, and you'll see all kinds of color combinations. So, while we can't tell you what's on your boat, we can tell you the various colors Hunter liked to use in certain eras of production. And we are happy to help you match what you have.

Roll lengths

Almost all sizes come in 150' rolls, although sizes 2" and wider are available as a 50' roll. Sorry, but we can't sell partial rolls.

Special order fee

We stock colors in common sizes that we know were used by Hunter. For all other colors there is a $10.95 special order fee per order. Whether you order one special order roll or 30, a single $10.95 surcharge will apply. Please note that special order rolls are subject to a 30% restocking charge if returned. Stock colors are not, if unused.

Let's get striping

Before you begin you should know/have:

If you're looking for striping you probably want to know more about other decals, too.

What's available and what's not

Hunter logo: mostly available

The current Hunter name decal is available, as is the round, raised emblem. We also have model desingation decals listed under the various Hunter models. Older decals for Cherubini designs and Legend-era boats can be found under their models, as well. However, there are no rules and you can use whatever you want on a boat of any age.

Model designation: mostly available.

We have model decals for boats built since ~2000 and Legend-era boats. Please see your boat model for availability.

Squiggles, swooshes, and swirls: not available

Sorry, these are no longer in production although we are working on replacements.

Using this color chart, check each color you wish to purchase (you'll select the width later).
